Introducing Aayla!

Good afternoon everyone!

As I write this, baby girl is asleep on my chest in my new Solly Baby Wrap! She is 5 weeks and 3 days old! I can't believe how time has flown and yet gone at the speed of snail all at the same time! It feels like a blurb and a lifetime all at the same time! It's amazing and scary! It's like going through a crash course in school with no prior experience and all nighters being the norm. Luckily for me, I have my mom who has done this eight times, and she has given me a lot of good advice that has helped me get this far with my sanity still intact!

Aayla born December 28th, 2014 at 7lbs 2oz!

I went into labor and a Saturday afternoon - but the contractions were pretty easy and didn't hurt too bad. It almost declined to no contractions at all by that night, so we wondered if they were actual Braxton Hicks contractions. I went to bed a little let down, but then the real contractions hit! I realized the true pain of labor. Hahahaha. (*Cries*) Earlier that week, the doctor had found that I was already dilated three centimeters. By the time we got to the hospital, I was about four to four and a half centimeters dilated. They still wanted me to walk around for awhile though because I was a week and two days early, and that was just two days short of them just accepting me into the hospital. By that point though, I was in no doubt that I was in labor. I had to remember to breath as I had back labor on top of just regular contractions. I couldn't really walk around because I couldn't. When I went back in, they hooked me up to an IV because I had tested positive for Strep B, so I had to have antibiotics. Labor kind of slowed down again after that even being on Pictocin. I got an epidural somewhere around five in the morning and got to sleep for a few hours. They took me off pictocin and gave me oxygen for a bit because Aayla's heart rate dropped and they were wanted to make sure she was still getting oxygen. They put an internal monitor in and she was good after that. Ironically, after they took me of pictocin, my labor started speeding up tremendously. (I knew it might take awhile though considering my mom was in labor with me for over 24 hours!)

My wonderful hubby helping me through some pretty ferocious back labor...

I started pushing around 2:15pm. During the pushing, I started crying my eyes out. Not because of the pain, but because I was pushing out a human being, and the emotion overwhelmed me. (In a good way.) I think I had most everyone in the room teary eyed, which didn't help me any. (haha) Aayla was born at 3:03pm that afternoon! When they broke my water, they discovered I had michonium (meaning Aayla passed stool in the womb), so they had to whisk her away to clean her up and make sure she was good to go before I got to hold her.

Those first few nights in the hospital were interesting since baby girl decided she wanted to get her days and nights mixed up. (That was fun.) She also has this interesting cry that sounds kind of like a pterodactyl... My mom helped me watch her the second night, and Aayla wore poor Grammy out! Luckily for me, my mom suggested I put her on an eating schedule, and that helped immensely! Now I get a decent amount of sleep for a new mom and baby girl is happy and healthy! (She's gained over a pound since her first pediatrician's visit!)

My dad wore his shirt I got him for Father's Day last year! :)

Baby girl is now one month old! She's already grown a lot and is starting to lose that newborn cry to a more mature baby cry. I love the little sounds she makes when I can really hear her little voice come shining through! She may be little, but she is also strong! Her daddy says she's going to be a heart breaker and a bone crusher. ;) It's also looking like she's going to be tall and lean. And hopefully smart too given the fact that her head is proportionally bigger than the rest of her body! A few weeks ago, we got to travel to Sandersville to see Grandma and Grandpa on JD's side! JD's dad is battling stage four cancer, so we're so glad he got to meet his first Davis grandbaby and even hold her! If y'all could keep him in your prayers, that would be much appreciated! You know they love their grandbaby when they have a nursery painted pink just for her at their house! We'll be seeing them again in about a week and a half for Valentine's weekend!

The grandparents love their grandbaby!

Aayla wasn't sure about the whole picture thing...

I just want to thank everyone who has so lovingly embraced our new little one! You make our hearts burst with joy and make this new adventure into parenthood a lot more interesting! We love how God has provided everything we needed, and we can't wait to raise our child to glorify Him. Life with Him is the greatest adventure of all! (And the best part is that it doesn't end here on earth!) I believe it truly does take a village to raise a child with God leading the way. You all have inspired me to live less selfishly and more for God and others! You have no idea how much your words of encouragement mean to us!

One thing is for sure, when you become a parent, you learn just how selfish you really are! I am beginning to understand just how much God loves us by sending His own Son to die for us! Aayla is teaching me even more so what it means to be self-sacrificing. It's a lesson I truly cherish since that is what the Creator has done for me.

Hopefully I will have more updates for you all in the next few weeks! (But don't be expecting a weekly blog post just yet. hahahaha...) As I have written this post, I have changed two diapers, started laundry, did dishes, made dinner, and had tummy time with baby girl, so I hope you enjoyed it!

Peace to you all!

Keri Lynn
